This is one of my all time favorite tunes.  The beat is so catchy and always puts me in a good mood.  But the pick the best performer?  I just don't know...

Who Sung it Best?

Listening to as many oldies as I do, I often hear the same song, but performed by different singers. I have my favorites but in your opinion, who sung it best?

Moonglow
Billie Holiday?

Or
Doris Day?

That Old Black Magic
Louis Prima and Keely Smith?

Or
Sarah Vaughan?

Tuesday Tunes- Unforgettable...

For a while, I was totally put off by Nat King Cole. I think it was the fact that all I ever heard was his song "Unforgettable" everywhere I went. Then, Diana Krall came along and produced a tribute album to Nat. The songs were fantastic but I still would not listen to him sing. Later, a friend was getting married and needed a song for her father and her to dance to; for some strange reason the words, "How about Unforgettable?" came out of my mouth. I couldn't snatch them back and the idea was a winner. But I had to go get the music (which I fibbed I had already). Luckily, back then, I could count on Border's book store. I told my friend that she could keep the cd but she insisted on returning it. Reluctantly,I started listening to the songs, carefully, skipping over "Unforgettable." After that, I was hooked on Nat King Cole's voice. Buying cd's and now records whenever I see them. I still am not crazy about this song but if it comes on I don't skip over it anymore.

Tuesday Tunes-We're traveling

Goodness! This was a hard song to find. Pink Martini does an excellent version but wanted to keep with the traditional.

One of my favorite songs by Dean. (swoon...)

I really wanted the version by Ella Fitzgerald but alas, can not be found... this will do.

Tuesday Tunes- We're Cooking Now

I'm making a vegan chocolate cake for a potluck lunch at our school tomorrow, so cooking/baking is on my mind.  Hence the following songs...

I was looking for the version by Bing Crosby and Bob Hope but this is just as good. Take a guess as to why...

Just had to put this song up...

And last...

More Tuesday Tunes

This past weekend, My Mum and I headed over to Orange. Now if you have never been to this quaint little town you need to go soon. This is the quintessential little town. The center of town is surrounded by old Victorians and Craftsman houses. This is one of the town's I could settle down in and call home. But the houses are the only thing that's fantastic about this town, its the antique stores and there's plenty of them. I headed over to one where I always buy my records. I've picked a song from each album for you to listen. Enjoy!

The first is Pearl Bailey's More Songs for Adults Only. Located on the record is "Performance of this album RESTRICTED from TV and radio." And they weren't kidding! Youtube does not carry anyone of her songs on this particular album. So here's another from her...

The second was Harry James You Made me Love You.

I also bought Nat King Cole Sings/George Shearing Plays

The last, Dino With orchestra conducted by Frank Sinatra Sleep Warm. Again couldn't find the song I really wanted so you get the next best thing. (Check out the advertisement on his the bottom of his shoe)

Happy Tuesday! Love and Tunes

A friend and I drove by a local florist and noticed a mob of people buying flowers, both of us started laughing because we had the same thought: what the heck is going on? Quickly, we realized what day it is; Happy Tuesday!!! What a great way for people to celebrate Tuesday. I never knew so many people felt that this day was so special. Can't wait until next year... Happy Thursday!
But for those of you who do like this day and feel the need to show your love only one day a year some of this is for you; while the other bits are for all those who are celebrating, Happy Tuesday!

Valentine Bench Monday

P2136866

This is a picture a little girl in my class drew last year around Valentine's Day.
The story goes like this: Scene 1. "Cupid shoots an arrow threw their hearts and they both fall in love."
When I asked her about the second drawing she answered, "Then they get married." We noticed the Dad with a baby on his back. "Tell us about this.. "The baby is so big that it's breaking his back! That's why he's crying." Teacher- What is the Mummy doing?   "She is laughing at Daddy!" See not all little girls believe in "happy ever after...."

And I'll end with one of my favorite love songs...

Tuesday Tunes

This is my dedication for the Patriots who are playing in the Superbowl this weekend. Go Pats!!
I wanted the version by Anita O'Day but no such luck on youtube. This is the closest. I do love the vintage photos.

Ok, this video is hilarious. We've come a long way in talk shows... Too bad for the recording numbers across the bottom but on this video it really looks like he's singing and not lip syncing.

Beautiful photography in this video

Tuesday Tunes

I LOVE the music from yesteryear; anywhere between the 30's-the 60's is the best. To me, they were artists, they had talent. They did not rely on machines that can change or distort a voice in order for it to sound better. The instruments were real not products of a computer. They used their natural talent and if they didn't have it... then they didn't have it. Singers like Dino, Bing and Ella just make me melt. Or the talent of Lionel Hampton on the xylophone... ahhhh. LOVE!!! Here are some of my favorites... from when music was music.

I love her dead pan attitude.
Is there any better voice?

I could go on but I'll save some for a later date. Enjoy the tunes
